In 1957, Carl Lowrance invented more than just the first portable fish finder. He invented a company of anglers hell-bent on revolutionizing the sport of fishing. That spirit of innovation is alive in our products today.
1959
The FISH-LO-K-TOR portable sonar unit (aka “Little Green Box”) launched, quickly becoming the world’s most popular sonar.
1974
The LRG-600 combines a flasher and a paper chart recorder in one box, our first graph recorder.
1975
FISH-LO-K-TOR and LRG 600 feature in “JAWS”.
1979
We introduce the LDD-1800, an early digital depth sounder controlled by a tiny computer.
1982
The X-15 debuts with a 10-key keypad & precision target separation, showing objects as close as 1 inch apart.
1985
The legendary X-16 is selected as the sonar for Operation Deepscan’s expedition to explore Scotland’s Loch Ness.
1988
We enter the navigation market with Loran-C products (LMS-200 & LMS-300), featuring wide LCD screens and easy-to-use menus.
1995
GlobalMap 2000 becomes the world’s first LCD with integrated GPS, mapping, and sonar.
1996
Carl Lowrance gives consent to Don Henley to use the Eagle Trademark for the Band name.
2006
Lowrance joins with Simrad Yachting and other brands to form Navico, the world’s largest recreational marine electronics manufacturer.
2008
The launch of Lowrance High Definition Systems (HDS) brings a full overhaul, with radar, AIS, real-time weather, integrated audio, and advanced sonar imaging.
2009
DownScan Imaging introduces a photo-like view beneath the boat, helping anglers easily distinguish rocks, trees, and fish.
2018
LiveSight debuts our first live sonar technology, enabling anglers to see fish in real-time.
2019
The Ghost trolling motor enters the market as the quietest, most reliable, and powerful option, featuring a brushless motor.
2020
ActiveTarget live sonar outshines the competition, offering a leap forward in real-time imaging.
2022
HDS PRO, ActiveTarget 2, and Active Imaging HD launch, introducing the Ultimate Fishing System, with integrated control from bow to stern.
2024
We launch Recon, featuring FreeSteer joystick control, powerful performance, and top-tier GPS.
